I am wondering if there is anyone on MDN that is a nurse or works in healthcare? I have been an RN, working fulltime for over 31 years - and as much as I love what I do, I find that the environment…Continue

A Bed of Roses:)

Life can be funny, crazy, insane. While I blog about Dom's cancer and his treatments, life was not full of gloom and doom. About 8 weeks after Dom was diagnosed, we got the most wonderful news ever.....we were going to be grandparents! Marlena and Enrrico shocked us with this announcement while we were celebrating Andrews birthday! My mind was so much on Dom that it took me a few minutes to let the news settle into my brain....and once it registered I cried like a baby! Talk about emotions! Up,… Continue

The Infusion Process--- being on the 'other side'

If memory serves me - I was with Dom for all treatments except one -- I did this for his well being as well as my own. I would have gone crazy at work - would not have focused - basically useless. Everybody thought I was a bit crazy but thats me. Can't help it, I am who I am. Bottom line - I did not need to be there - he received exceptional care from the staff at the Center for Cancer. Our friend Mary was beyond words helpful and caring. And to be honest I know that this experience had to be… Continue

Time for Test......my version.....

Being a nurse for, uh, well, a long time :) there are some tests you just hope you never have to go through......one of these is a bone marrow biopsy. Unfortunately Dom needed this test. Back in the day when I observed this study being done is was very tough to watch....so when his doctor indicated it could be done 'in the office' I went pale.....no, I don't think so. Dr Siegel is a most kind and compassionate man - I really don't think there is another MD like him. He saw the fear on my face… Continue

My Husband has cancer.......

Posted on June 10, 2013 at 9:47pm 2 Comments

There is a 'back' story regarding Doms diagnosis of cancer that is imperative to share. Dom had been treated by a cardiologist for mild high blood pressure. This doctor had ordered a CAT scan to assess the condition of his aorta. The doctor called Dom after the CAT scan to tell him the results and that things were stable and there was no need to change medications. Being a nurse, I typically ask my close family to always ask for a copy of the test results --I like to read them:) In this case it… Continue
