"Being Hot Fudge Sundaes"

A great quote from a book I just read, "Women Food And God" by Geneen Roth:

“It's never been true, not anywhere at any time, that the value of a soul, of a human spirit, is dependent on a number on a scale. We are unrepeatable beings of light and space and water who need these physical vehicles to get around. When we start defining ourselves by that which can be measured or weighed, something deep within us rebels.

We don't want to EAT hot fudge sundaes…

Beet-Carrot Marinara

Today I’m sharing with you a wonderful new marinara recipe. Unlike my original marinara and my smoky marinara, this recipe is raw. It is really delicious over vegetable pasta (this is the typical way that most raw foodies will use marinara), but it’s also awesome as a salad dressing, or a dipping sauce.…

My Personal Cleanse And Some Realizations

Hey Everyone!

Months ago I posted about how I was doing things a bit differently diet-wise. I wrote about how much I was enjoying fruits and small amounts of whole grains, eating throughout the day rather than juicing until dinner, basically doing and eating things that I never did for years prior to pregnancy.

Just to reiterate what I wrote in that post, I believed that approach…

A Love Letter To My Twenties

My teens rolled into my twenties with a  case of ennui. I remember when I was in middle school and a teacher marked that I was “indifferent” on my report card.

My mom was so angry. “You are NOT indifferent.”

I was, and it got worse.

But 20 was the age I first tried meditating. I felt something inside me light up. A new path emerged for me.

After spending a semester off from college in Jersey, I re enrolled at Millersville as an English major. I didn’t…

No More Fitness Blogging. Here's Why.

I started a fitness blog because I felt like I really needed to get my ass into shape post-baby, and in general. Since I got into juicing and raw foods I haven't really been so into fitness. Mostly because at first weight loss and high energy levels were effortless with all the juicing and raw food, as was looking good. I didn't really wear make up anymore, either, for the first time in my life.

After the initial cleansing phase when you start juicing/raw fooding, your body tends to…

Fitness Blog: Where You Are Is Where You Are

I think it's so funny how I posted how many push ups, squats, minutes I spent on the elliptical, and how many miles I ran in my last post, and this post is so different.

My biggest hurdle with getting back into shape post-pregnancy (even though I honestly wasn't in the best shape when I got pregnant) has been my daughter. Yes, after we have the baby we actually have to take care of them. ;)

The truth is, my daughter and I have a routine that works pretty well. But she changes…

Books For Bangladesh

I can’t stop thinking about the tragedy in Bangladesh and I am disturbed by the circumstances that contributed to the deaths of hundreds, and injuries to thousands of mostly young women workers who were making clothing for American and European clothing companies in dangerous conditions with no health or safety standards, and with no benefits.

These people should not have been working in a building that was unsafe, but were forced by the factory owners who threatened non-payment of…

Turning 30 - My fitness blog cont'd

It's May 1st and in TWO WEEKS I will be THIRTY. Wow.

It's not that big of a deal (obviously it kind of is, I think I wrote about this in a previous fitness post lol), but it is a new decade and I think a fresh start. Part of the reason why I'm working out and taking it seriously is because these past couple of years have really made me appreciate my body much more than ever before, and it's also shown me that if I don't move it and push it regularly, things will stagnate, and that's…

Fitness and Dessert Blog Cont'd

I started running!

I haven't gone running in two days, and I won't be going today (yesterday and today I am using an elliptical machine, Friday I took an off day because my back felt awful for some reason), but I ran three mornings in a row, pushing Alessandra is a jogging stoller. It felt AMAZING. I forgot how good it feels to run, so long as it's not uphill.

Tuesday and Wednesday I ran on a nearby high school track. I like this because the impact doesn't feel nearly as…

The Big 3-0, and More Fitness Adventures

In three weeks I'll be thirty.
Honestly, I've never feared the big 3-0. I've always found life to be easier and more fun as I've gotten older. You know better, you do better, right?
Well thirty is a whole new decade and my first "adult" decade I'd say, especially since having a baby makes me feel one hell of a lot more adult-ish than I ever have on any other birthday. Last year Alessandra was a month and half old on my birthday so, needless to say, I barely even…

Fitness Blog Part 2

My fitness "challenge" of sorts is off to a decent start as of today. I did about 20 minutes of Tracey Anderson's dance cardio choreographed dvd which felt AMAZING and I did some yoga on my own. My legs are a bit sore from the cardio and my arms and shoulders are a bit sore from the yoga. Yay!

I've gone to so many yoga classes throughout the years and there are so many videos online that I don't feel like I need to go to a class to get benefit. This will definitely be something I go… Continue

Fitness. Ugh.

Ugh. Fitness.

I hesitated writing this post because I don't know what the point of it is. I don't really like working out. I hate sweating, I hate getting all red in the face. I LOATHE being sore. Ugh. Do I really want to get into really awesome shape when it requires all of this from me?

Yes, I do (she says with reluctance).

I've been battling some demons since becoming pregnant. Demons, that I would say, I thought I had defeated long ago, but I guess we can… Continue

Grapefruit - Fennel Refresher

Grapefruit And Fennel Refresher

2 big grapefruit

1 small fennel bulb

Run through a juicer. I like this when it’s about 3 parts grapefruit, 1 part fennel. If there is too much fennel, it’s not nearly as good! I also have added stevia to this juice when there wasn’t enough sweetness in my…

New Fresh Juice Recipes, A Comforting Soup Recipe, And My Fasting Reflections

OK, first things first. The following recipe is for the best juice, ever. I’m just going to start the post off with it as I think this may have to be my breakfast for all of eternity, fasting or not fasting. I’m so excited about it.

Thank you to the brilliant Jen Colombo for sharing this in the comment section of last week’s post.

2 Easy Recipes That Will Make You Want To Juice Fast

The title of this post offers a BIG promise, I know. Believe me.

As much as I love juices, I love my meals, too. Trading a meal for liquid is something that, while incredibly beneficial for me (I sometimes think I feel better on a juice fast than I do while eating!), is not something that comes easily.

So when I fast I have to consume the most incredible liquids. …

First Birthday

Today our beautiful daughter, Alessandra, turns 1. It's hard to believe that a year has gone by so quickly. While the first 4 months were the most difficult, exhausting, and frustrating of my life, the year as a whole flew.

I always describe new motherhood as a constant back and forth of the…

My Body Is Perfect, And So Is Yours

It may seem like I write about food and nutrition just to show you how delicious healthy food is. I think I've made it pretty clear that you can veganize old favorites pretty easily, or sub goat cheese for cow cheese in pretty much everything.

But that's not really why I write.

I write because  I really want to feel amazing in my own skin, and I want you to feel amazing in your skin, too. I'm learning, and I want to share what I learn with you. I think we all deserve to feel…
